Blazing a Trail: From the Four Corners

June 6, 2024

The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage begins tonight! As we accompany Jesus from city to city, we will share upcoming events and highlights so you can follow along on this historic journey. Check back every Friday to see a snapshot of moments to look forward to on each of the four routes in the approaching week.

Launching from the Four Corners

Marian Route

The northern arm of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage will travel across Minnesota this week, making its way from the Diocese of Crookston and passing through the Dioceses of Duluth and St. Cloud. The very first event starts this evening! Here are some key events to look forward to in the first week:

  • The official start of the Marian Route is ready to light hearts on fire at the Star of the North Eucharistic Congress in the Diocese of Crookston. This two-day event will feature keynote presentations by Bishop Robert Barron, Sr. Jude Andrew, Bishop Andrew Cozzens, and Fr. Mike Schmitz.
  • A 12-mile Eucharistic procession along the Paul Bunyan State Trail will accompany our Eucharistic Lord as he enters the Diocese of Duluth.
  • The Dioceses of Duluth and Superior will host a Holy Hour led by the Bishop of Superior, Bishop James Powers. The next day, Bishop Daniel Felton of the Diocese of Duluth will lead Mass and a Eucharistic procession at the Duluth Cathedral with concelebrants Bishop Andrew Cozzens, Bishop James Powers, and several priests from both dioceses.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Route

The eastern branch of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage will kick off in Hew Haven, Connecticut, where Blessed Michael McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882. The Perpetual Pilgrims on the Seton Route will accompany Jesus from the Archdiocese of Hartford through the Diocese of Bridgeport and begin traveling through the Archdiocese of New York this week. Here are some upcoming highlights:

  • Archbishop Christopher Coyne will celebrate the opening Pentecost Vigil Mass at St. Mary Church to launch this route, followed by a Eucharistic procession and overnight Eucharistic adoration.
  • The Diocese of Bridgeport will process with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament through over 15 parishes in four days.
  • In the first two days of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage’s time in the Archdiocese of New York, Bishop Edmund Whalen will celebrate a bilingual Mass in Port Chester, and Bishop John Bonnici will lead a night of adoration at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers.

St. Juan Diego Route

Departing at the tip of Texas near the U.S.-Mexico border in Brownsville, the southern arm of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage will spend its first week traveling along the Gulf of Mexico. This week, pilgrims will pass through the Diocese of Brownsville and begin their journey in the Diocese of Corpus Christi. Check out these events along the way:

St. Junipero Serra Route

The western branch of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage will begin its journey of over 2,200 miles on Saturday evening. Preparing to cross deserts, mountains, and the Great Plains, this longest and most challenging arm of the Pilgrimage launches from the Archdiocese of San Francisco, carrying the fire of the Holy Spirit through the Diocese of Sacramento this week. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Hundreds are registered to attend a special Pentecost Mass celebrated by Archbishop Cordileone at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco before processing across the Golden Gate Bridge with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
  • Bishop Jaime Soto and the Perpetual Pilgrims will lead a Eucharistic procession in a flotilla of boats on the Napa River, Carquinez Strait, and Sacramento River from the Vallejo Municipal Marina to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, with several stops along the way.

As the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage begins, join us in prayer that our nation will encounter Our Lord powerfully as he journeys to be near to us in this remarkable new way! Visit the Pilgrims’ Digest page every Friday to find out what exciting highlights are on the road ahead.
